Love Airways

I was browsing through the magazine rack when i saw this:

Love Airways

Singapore’s first sex edutainment magazine?

Hmm… looking at the wrapped-up mannequin, with strategically placed graphics, and non-inspiring descriptions of the articles inside, this magazine sure seems… boring.

I really wonder who would want to buy it, perhaps some clueless guys who do not have internet access.

I know, it’s an unfair judgement of the magazine since I’ve not taken a look inside, but simply judging by its cover, i’m not expecting much. Furthermore, it’s branded ‘Singapore’, how daring can it get?

Will this magazine last? I don’t think so, somehow…

Jeanette Winterson’s The Powerbook

Jeanette Winterson's The Powerbook

I was introduced to this book by a friend a few years back and I picked it up about a year or so back. I’ve yet to finish reading it, simply because I don’t want to. The book is such a good read that I don’t want to end. Thus I’ve been stalling, and re-reading all these while.

Now, this book is un-wordily expressive where the author makes every sentence counts to paint a vividly beautiful and modern-ly romantic pictures, or rather ‘jpg’s. Modern paintings transcending the passage of time are explored through the realm of virtual reality as an email writer composes stories of love. This books requires a strong imagination- not driven by the book per se- to continue to read and stop reading (or else you’ll finish the book in one short sitting). And that’s why I find this book refreshingly interesting; I must learn to take it slow, and to be able to put it down when I must.

Surreal, non-linear-ly themic good read on modern love.
