Survivor: racist?
The latest Survivor series at Cook Islands has invited controversy by dividing the tribe members according to their race. Singapore TV decided to not bring in the popular reality program, but finally did after a few episodes were aired in the US. I guess the TV people were afraid of unwanted criticism of being somewhat insensitive towards issue of race, which I find so remote a reason. And this is what I have to say…
We are all made different. We have to acknowledge that. We have to accept that. We are of different races all over the world, and we practise different culture. I believe no matter what’s done, it’s almost impossible to integrate all the races together. But that does not mean we all cannot be as one. We all need to understand each other. We all need to respect each other.
Personally, I think what Survivor had done was to acknowledge the presence of race. Whether or not Survivor or its participants are racist, I don’t know….yet. I’ll have to wait for the airing of the show, and watch it myself. If the participants make uncalled for remarks, and Survivor decided to air those remarks, then yes, it’s racist. But till then, I shall wait and see…
(Oh sucks! I just realized that Survivor will be shown on Friday night, when I’ll most probably on the bus heading towards KL….. WTF!)
